Boob tape: lift without a bra

Boob tape is a stretchy body tape that lifts and holds your breasts under backless, plunging and cut-out outfits. It suits more cup sizes than a stick-on bra, once you know how to apply it.

Boob tape is a stretchy, skin-safe body tape that you apply in strips from under each breast up towards the shoulder. It lifts and holds without a band or straps, so it works under backless dresses, plunging necklines and cut-out tops where no bra can hide.

Who is boob tape for?

  • Outfits with an open back and a low front, where neither a strapless nor a low-back bra will hide.
  • Fuller busts that find stick-on bras do not hold. Wider tape and more strips give more support.
  • Anyone who wants adjustable shape: you choose how much lift and how close together to set your breasts.

If your outfit has a back, a bra is still more comfortable for a long day. Our guide to the bra for a backless dress covers every option.

How to apply boob tape

  1. Prepare the skin. Wash and dry it, with no lotion, oil or deodorant on your chest.
  2. Patch test a small piece a day before, especially if your skin is sensitive.
  3. Cover your nipples with a nipple cover or a small square of tissue so the adhesive never touches them.
  4. Cut strips long enough to run from below your breast to above it, with rounded corners so they do not lift.
  5. Lift and stick: hold your breast in the position you want, then smooth the strip upwards from below. Overlap strips by about half their width.
  6. Anchor the top ends on your chest or shoulder, then rub each strip for a few seconds so the adhesive warms and grips.

How to remove it

Never pull tape off dry. Soak it with baby oil, coconut oil or a remover, wait a minute, then peel slowly and low, pressing the skin flat behind it. Wash the area and moisturise afterwards.

  1. 1

    Wide stretch body tape roll

A wide roll (around 7–10 cm) gives more hold for fuller busts and can be cut to the shape of your neckline.

  2. 2

    Pre-cut breast lift tape shapes

Ready-shaped strips are quicker to apply and easier to hide under a deep V.

  3. 3

Nipple covers to wear under tape

Putting a cover on first stops the adhesive touching sensitive skin and makes removal kinder.

Which size of tape?

Tape is not sized like a bra. A width of about 5 cm suits smaller cups; 7.5–10 cm suits D cups and above. If you are unsure of your cup size, our bra size calculator gives a UK starting size that helps you judge how much support you need.

Questions people ask

Does boob tape work on big boobs?
It can. Use a wide tape, more strips, and anchor each strip high on the chest. For an event of several hours with a fuller bust, a strapless bra built for a large bust often feels more secure.
How do you take off boob tape without hurting?
Soak it with baby oil or an oil-based remover, wait a minute, then peel slowly in the direction of hair growth while pressing the skin flat.
Is boob tape better than a stick-on bra?
Tape gives more lift and works with more neckline shapes; a stick-on bra is quicker and reusable but suits smaller cups best.
